Glenelg’s Juniors still in hunt for State title

Glenelg’s Josh Hayes and Jenny Lee remain in contention after the 2nd round of the Golf SA Junior Amateur Championships played at The Grange’s West Course today.

Hayes is currently tied in 2nd position with The Grange’s Anthony Murdaca at one under par, four shots behind leader Tom Couling from Commonwealth Golf Club in Victoria.  A solid even-par round at The Grange followed up Hayes’ impressive one-under 71 at Kooyonga in the first round.

Lachlan Booth shot another 3-over 75 to be 11 shots shy of the lead and tied in 6th place.  Jack Hynes and Will Starkey followed up disappointing first rounds at Kooyonga with scores of 76 and 77 respectively in the second round to be within the top 30.

In the girls’ event, Jenny Lee is still within striking distance of chasing her third consecutive Junior State Amateur title despite a second round 78 at The Grange.  Lee sits only 3 shots from the leader, The Grange’s Kristalle Blum who has had rounds of 78, 73 over the first two days.

Home course advantage for the final round could be vital for both Hayes and Lee in the quest to take out the State titles, with players hitting off from 6:30am tomorrow morning at Glenelg.
