Following an outstanding minor round season, our Women’s Grade 2 Pennant team sealed the deal on Monday, comprehensively defeating Mt Osmond in the final at The Grange Golf Club, 4 matches to 1, and taking out the 2012 Pennant.
Led out of the blocks by Cathy Johnson at number five, the team got off to the best start with Cathy closing her match off at the 13th hole, winning 6&5. Perennial favourite, and recent runner-up in the Women’s Club Championship final, Sue Tuohy, continued the positive start clinching her match on the 18th hole to win 2 up.
When youngster Matilda Wheare stumbled at the difficult number three position, going down to experienced and long time pennant player Jenny Butcher 3&2, it was left to other youngster Jess Burns and Sarah Griffiths to finish off their matches, which they did in absolute style, winning 5&4 and 4&3 respectively. Sarah’s win at number one completed a 100% winning record for the season winning seven out of seven matches, equalled only in total wins by Sue Tuohy.
