Sharp Cup returns to Glenelg for the first time in a decade

2016 Sharp Cup Champions

Report by Paul Grosvenor (Team Manager)

Glenelg’s Sharp Cup boys were victorious over Country Districts at The Grange (West course) on Sunday in the Final.

The Grange was presented in excellent condition with strong winds and intermittent showers making scoring a challenge for the players.

The first player to finish their match was Marcus Kuys playing at number four winning 5/4. Marcus was in control of his match all day and played some exceptional long shots into the strong winds. Well done Marcus!

Aaron Buchanan returned the teams second win of the day at number 5 winning 2/1. Aaron played well in the difficult conditions and again Aaron highlighted why he is always “Mr. Reliable”. Great work Aaron!

The third player to finish their match and secure the Sharp Cup for Glenelg was Harry Burner playing at number 1 winning 3/2. Harry didn’t get off to a great start but persisted in the difficult conditions to take control of his match. Excellent work Harry!

Frank Vucic and Jake Rillotta, who played at numbers two and three respectively were officially recorded as having squared their matches as per Pennant Finals Conditions as an overall result had been reached, however both had completed their matches winning in fine form! Very nice Frank and Jake!

Having won every contest in the regular season and the Final, the Sharp Cup boys of 2016 are arguably the most successful junior team in Glenelg’s history.  Keep an eye out for these names in the future as I am sure you will see them representing the Bonnar and Simpson Cup teams in the years to come.

The Sharp Cup boys and myself are extremely grateful of the efforts and support of the Pro-Shop staff, David Brand, sponsors, caddies and supporters. Thank you for all your support this season.
