A tough round playing Grange at Grange, but Glenelg’s juniors were able to fight out an excellent draw to remain in contention for the Sharp cup final.<\/p>\n

Mitch Ward teed off first but had a day to forget as his Grange opponent, Morgan Pfitzner, took advantage of her home course knowledge as Grange took out an early win.<\/p>\n

Jacob Rillotta, playing in his debut Junior pennant match, had a great battle with Jamie Smith who jumped to an early three hole advantage.\u00a0 But from there, Jacob, who has never previously played the West Course, hit some solid golf shots trading pars with Jamie.\u00a0 Despite the occasional \u00a0troubles in the bunkers, Jacob was able to peg back the lead to be 1 down on the 18th tee.\u00a0 However, Jamie held firm and took the match 2 up.\u00a0 A good effort first up Jacob.<\/p>\n

Jack Buchanan took on Graham Coleman, who flew out the box, winning the first three holes.\u00a0 This was always going to be a critical match and Jack was able to dig deep to get it back to square by the turn.\u00a0 It was a toughly fought battle with Graham’s length vs Jack\u2019s touch around the greens.\u00a0 With never more than a one shot difference on the back nine, the match was square heading down the 18th hole. \u00a0Jack decided to pull out his driver not once, but twice, on the long par four final hole (9th hole) hitting deck driver from over 200m out to be pin high leaving him with an eight footer which he calmly dropped for birdie to take out the critical win.<\/p>\n

Right behind him, Aaron was playing the match of the day against Harrison Burner, who has also recently joined Glenelg.\u00a0 It was a great pairing with Aaron and Harrison playing superb golf, trading holes with great approach shots and solid putting.\u00a0 Aaron took an early one shot lead and was 2 up after six.\u00a0 Harrison was able to square the match by the 12th where it remained square until Aaron played a great fairway bunker shot to set up a par on the 16th and followed it up with another solid par on the 17th\u00a0 to take out his first win for the season and our second win for the day.<\/p>\n

With the contest square at two matches each, the final match between Jack Tanner and Emma Sutton was a classic.\u00a0 Jack was solid on the first nine, taking a three shot lead at the turn.\u00a0 The momentum swung Grange\u2019s way as Emma took out three of the next six holes to be square at 15.\u00a0 Jack muscled his way to take the advantage on the 16th hole and held the advantage to be one up on the 18th tee.\u00a0 Jack found the greenside bunker and hit a good shot to be eight feet below the hole. \u00a0\u00a0Emma was able to navigate a long downhill right to left slider to leave herself with a three foot par putt.\u00a0 Jack needed to hole his putt for a Glenelg win, but it unfortunately slid past the hole.<\/p>\n

Stil,l a great halved contest against a strong Grange outfit around their home track.\u00a0 Well done boys.\u00a0 With a bye for Glenelg next week, it is likely that the finals birth will be decided on the final round where we will play Kooyonga at Glenelg on the 5th July.<\/p>\n
