{"id":8522,"date":"2015-05-27T12:13:11","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T02:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/?p=8522"},"modified":"2023-06-20T15:44:21","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T06:14:21","slug":"simpson-cup-team-loses-close-battle-to-blackwood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/2015\/05\/simpson-cup-team-loses-close-battle-to-blackwood\/","title":{"rendered":"Simpson Cup team loses close battle to Blackwood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_2723.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8523\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-8523\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_2723.jpg\" alt=\"Luke Bashford fought back with birdie on the last hole to half his debut Simpson Cup match for Glenelg\" width=\"530\" height=\"353\" \/><\/a>Report by Gary Thompson (Assistant Manager)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Glenelg&#8217;s Simpson Cup team went down to Blackwood 4-3 at Tea Tree Gully on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The game was an incredibly tight contest all day with the Blackwood&#8217;s players making a few more putts late in the day to turn the match their way.\u00a0 Individual matches were all closely fought contests.<\/p>\n<p>Luke Bashford, making his Simpson Cup debut, tussled all day with only one hole separating the pair throughout. In the finish Luke played a fantastic wedge on the last to birdie and finish square.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Magi, who received a late call up on Sunday morning, played solid golf all day and led 2 up on the 16th tee only to have his opponent finish birdie, birdie, par for Ben to finish 1down.<\/p>\n<p>Henry Duregon continued his fine season to rally over the back nine, finishing with a birdie on the last to win 1up.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Olsen showed again why he was missed last season, playing some really solid golf to record a 2&amp;1 victory.<\/p>\n<p>Will Starkey also continued on with his solid early season form to record a square in his match.<\/p>\n<p>David Hiern fought doggedly all day but went down 3&amp;2 to his opponent who played exceptionally well all day.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Hallam got off to a sluggish start on the greens, but proved what a great fighter he is to get back in the game only to lose 2&amp;1.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, there was a lot of high quality golf played by both teams and we look forward to our challenge against Grange this Sunday at Highercombe Golf Club.<\/p>\n<h2>Results<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/pennants.demo.golf.co.nz\/index.aspx?pennantid=42&amp;display=results\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Glenelg&#8217;s Simpson Cup team went down to Blackwood 4-3 at Tea Tree Gully on Sunday. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":8523,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[388,198,160],"class_list":["post-8522","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-guests-news","tag-2015-pennant","tag-golf-sa-pennant","tag-simpson-cup"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
