A hills course in good condition and with well running greens.<\/p>\n<p>We had visited Highercombe the previous week for a practice round against the Blackwood Golf Club. We had a 4-3 victory and the experience at the golf course was invaluable. On arrival we were met by steady rain and breeze with a temperature of less than 10 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Our boys started very\u00a0well inclining to an early lead, however the rain and wind was increasing and fog descended with visibility reduced to 30 metres. The first few holes were terrible for us as we feel behind in the match.<\/p>\n<p>After nine holes we had two players in front, four behind and one square. The back nine did not start well either with most players slipping further back and\u00a0the day seeming lost. Campbell McLuckie down most of the day recovered and after a birdie from 3 metres on the 17th went 1 up. He\u00a0hit two wonderful shots into the 18th for\u00a0a strong birdie to win his match 2 up. The score was now two matches each after Anthony Olsen had a convincing 4\/3 victory. The match started to turn Glenelg&#8217;s way when Lachlan Booth made a dramatic recovery. Three down after\u00a0two holes, he played wonderfully to stand on the 18th tee 1up. Two great shots and an eagle putt from 20 feet sealed our 3rd point.<\/p>\n<p>Back to the 18th tee where our co-captain Andrew Grzybowski was one down. A frustrating day for Andrew, whos opponent holed a lot of putts. Two great shots to the short par 5 18th saw Andrew lip out his eagle putt from 10 feet. Nerves were eased when his opponent failed to hole is slightly shorter putt. We were now up 3 1\/2 matches to 2\/12\u00a0 with one match remaining. We raced back to the 17th green to see the Flagstaff Hill number one drive the ball to 2 metres on a 250 metre uphill par 4. Our other co-captain Campbell Rawson could not quite match this shot but stood on the 18th tee all square.<\/p>\n<p>Both players hit solid drives but both missed the green slightly long and right of the green. Jacob Sewell (Flagstaff Hill) chipped to three feet with a nice shot while Campbell was unfortunate to have a fluffy lie and chipped to about 10 feet. His putt missed narrowly on the low side and Sewell solidly holed his short putt for the win. A very tight match played with great quality and etiquette, a compliment to both sides.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately Matt McGowan suffered an ankle injury on Saturday and could not play. Mitch Nash was thrown in\u00a0the deep end and played at number two. He played strongly but was defeated by a very good player under par on the day.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to thank the caddies who earned their lunch through a very tough day. Also to Shane Robinson who helped Mitch experience his first Simpson Cup match. We nearly one this was with the excitement nervewracking. We play the Grange Golf Club next week in a season definer. Brad Stenner 2up<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonnar Cup &#8211; Round 1<\/strong><br \/><strong>At Highercombe Golf Club<\/strong><br \/><strong>Glenelg\u00a01\u00a0lost to\u00a0Tea Tree Gully 6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Report by Wayne Humphries (Team Manager)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A tough assignment for our B Pennant players against one of the stronger teams in B Pennant. All players had to endure cold, blustery conditions and the first drive of the day off the 10th tee at Grange West into a strong westerly was a testing challenge.<\/p>\n<p>The 1-6 result was not indicative of the competitive nature of the match. After 12 holes Glenelg was ahead in 3, square in 1 and trailing in the other 3. Five games were decided on the 18<sup>th<\/sup> hole (Grange West 9<sup>th<\/sup> hole) with Tea Tree Gully winning 4 of those 5 games.<\/p>\n<p>Special mention and \u201ccongratulations\u201d to Marty Ardill at No. 6 on playing his first pennant match for Glenelg and winning 1 up \u2013 well played Marty.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations also to John Noble (at No. 7) on his first pennant match for Glenelg. John\u2019s match was competitive all day \u2013 his four foot putt on the last to square his game horse-shoe lipped out for a 1 down result. Henry Duregon at No. 5 and Sam Laslett (captain) at No. 4 both led their games for most of the day but credit goes to their opponents who both won the 18<sup>th<\/sup> hole for 1 up wins.<\/p>\n<p>The top 3 players \u2013 Luke Bashford at No.3, James Brown at No.2 and Sam Hynes at No.1 all had tough opponents and were well down at the half way mark. Full credit to these boys for fighting back \u2013 Luke took his game to the 17<sup>th<\/sup> before losing 2\/1, James Brown was square with the card on the back 9 to take his game to the 18<sup>th<\/sup> after being 3 down early to lose 1 down, whilst Sam recovered from 5 down at one stage to finish down 3\/2.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all the caddies for their support to their players through some very difficult conditions and also to Bob McLuckie and Simon Connelly for their attendance and support.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Sam Hynes lost toMatt McMahon 3\/2<br \/>James Brown lost to Stuart Kopania 2dn<br \/>Luke Bashford lost to Jacin Cook 2\/1<br \/>Sam Laslett lost to Norm Cordina 1dn<br \/>Henry Duregon lost to Wayne Everett 1dn<br \/>Martin Ardill def.
