Jenny Lee and Jason Goldsworthy are the two remaining Glenelg members in contention for the 2015 Australian Amateur Championships after both successfully qualified for the elimination matchplay following today’s second qualifying rounds in Sydney.<\/p>\n

Lee will be keen to make amends for her semi-final loss in the 2014 championships held at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide last year, and go one step further than her runner up finish in 2013.\u00a0 Lee fired a solid second round two-under par 72 around The Lakes layout to climb back up the leaderboard and qualify in 15th place, and will take on Metropolitan Golf Club’s Jo Charlton in their 1st round match at The Australian tomorrow afternoon.<\/p>\n

Goldsworthy, after starting his second round strongly at The Australian to be two-under for the day, and the tournament, following 12 holes, found trouble over his closing six holes to post a 4-over 76 and find himself right on the cut line.\u00a0 An anxious afternoon of waiting eventually saw Goldsworthy tee it up in a nine-way playoff for the final eight positions, which he successfully navigated after the 2014 Australian Mid-Amateur Champion, John McMiles, made double bogey up the first playoff hole. Goldsworthy will take on New Zealander, and 6th qualifier, Ryan Chisnall in tomorrow morning’s 1st round match at The Australian.<\/p>\n

In shattering news for 15-year old, Lachlan Barker, a four-over par second round at The Australian saw the Glenelg youngster miss the play-off by a single shot.\u00a0 Whilst undoubtedly disappointed, Barker’s strong performance at this elite amateur level at the ripe age of only 15 will certainly put him in great stead for his future.\u00a0 Watch out for this kid!<\/p>\n

Glenelg’s other two representatives, Josh Hayes and Sam Earl, had disappointing finishes to their tournament, with Hayes closing out with a second round 79 to finish 12-over and in a tie for 143rd position, whist Earl had a round to forget, finishing in a tie for 150th a further shot back from Hayes.<\/p>\n
