Kalz take out pennant awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8766-e1402886514617.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Leigh Attenborough (seen here on his way to the 2011 Club Championship), took out the 2014 Men's Pennant Player of the Year.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8766-e1402886514617.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>After a very successful 2014 pennant campaign, with the Club taking out the Women&#8217;s Grade 1 and Bonnar Cup pennant, and both Simpson and Sharp Cup teams finishing third, individual honours were presented to the best players across the men&#8217;s, women&#8217;s and junior divisions at the annual pennant presentation dinner held at the Club on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Leigh Attenborough took out the Men&#8217;s Pennant Player of the Year award for his outstanding season in Simpson Cup, finishing undefeated on seven wins from as many matches.\u00a0 Attenborough returned to pennants in 2014 after a few years away from competitive golf and showed he still had the hunger to match it with the best in the state.\u00a0 He also played a significant part in passing on his extensive pennant experience to some of the younger players in the team which should, in turn, help the Club in coming years as we continue to develop our pennant program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0074.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Elysia Yap took out the 2014 Women's Pennant Player of the Year award.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0074.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>Elysia Yap, after coming off a second place in the Women&#8217;s Club Championships earlier in the year, showed her true class, taking out the Women&#8217;s Pennant Player of the Year award.\u00a0 Like Attenborough, Yap also went through the 2014 season undefeated in the important number two position and played an integral part in the team which took out the title for a third year in succession.<\/p>\n<p>Following an outstanding year in the Bonnar Cup competition, Will Starkey, was awarded the Most Outstanding Achievement award for his efforts during the season.\u00a0 Starkey lost only one match playing in the top order in the 2014 season, with three halves, including one in the Bonnar Cup final after the overall result had been determined.\u00a0 Starkey continues to grow as a fine young player for the Club, displaying true fight under some extreme pressure situations during the season.<\/p>\n<p>Women&#8217;s Grade 2 team member, Bec Hughes, took out the Women&#8217;s Team Player of the Year award for her efforts during the season.\u00a0 Hughes lost only one match in her debut season for the Club, despite having to front up in the top order for much of the year &#8211; an impressive effort with minimal previous matchplay experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0579.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Jackson Kalz was the inaugural Bob McLuckie Trophy recipient as the 2014 Junior Pennant Player of the Year.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0579.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>The inaugural recipient of the Bob McLuckie Trophy, presented for the first time in 2014 to the best junior pennant player of the year, was Jackson Kalz, following his undefeated performance in the Sharp Cup competition.\u00a0 Kalz did not lose a game during the year, with his only &#8220;blemish&#8221;
