<\/a>Glenelg’s juniors played Mt Osmond under slippery and soggy conditions for round two of the Sharp Season, the of which will be prescribed as the one that got away as Glenelg went down in a dramatic finish, 3 matches to 2.<\/p>\nHyoyi Pyun\u00a0 teed off first and was perhaps a little intimidated by \u2018heartbreak\u2019 hill and the fact that her opponent almost drove the green.\u00a0 Down early in the match, Hyoyi once again fought hard to be square through 13 before her opponent broke away to take the first match.<\/p>\n
Jack Tanner found the conditions tough but so too did his opponent.\u00a0 Always behind, Jack would win a hole only to lose the next.\u00a0 Win a hole, lose the next….\u00a0 A good last hole saw him finally draw level to square his match.<\/p>\n
Jackson Kalz’s short game was on for the first nine holes and was probably unluckly not to be 3 or 4 up.\u00a0 His opponent rode his luck well and then started to wear Jackson down with a series of 6-8 foot putts.\u00a0 A wayward drive on the 17th meant that they were square heading down 18.\u00a0 Both had their chance to win on\u00a0 the green but fittingly, this match also ended square.<\/p>\n
We needed a win and Liam Kennewell came to the party.\u00a0 Not playing the best but keeping in touch with his opponent, Liam need a bit of luck and that came on the 11thshort par 4.\u00a0 His opponent drove within ten meters of the green, Liam sliced high and wide, his second only advancing the ball ten meters.\u00a0 His opponent \u2018s second struck the pin and stopped within a foot which would put him 2 up…\u00a0 However, he played out of turn!\u00a0 I consulted with Liam and we decided to ask him to replay his shot (an option available under the Rules of Golf).\u00a0 The second, not so good and Liam capitalised by producing a great up and down to halve the hole.\u00a0 Liam\u2019s confidence lifted and his opponent was rattled.\u00a0 A great birdie two holes later put Liam square and game over as Liam overran his opponent.<\/p>\n
With the contest all square, Jack Hynes tussled with his opponent all day, coming from behind to be all square on the 18th tee.\u00a0 The final hole was epic.\u00a0 Jack drove long and strong to be well positioned high on the 18th fairway.\u00a0 Chang hooked his ball towards the hazard only to be saved by a tree.\u00a0 His second shot tumbled up the fairway still 60m out.\u00a0 Jack pulled out his 6 iron, 155m out… Oh no.. a shank towards the clubhouse, ruled out of bounds by two inches.\u00a0 Jack replayed his shot this time with a 5 iron striking it pure to be 15 foot under the hole.\u00a0 Chang over hit his 3rd to be 25 foot past the hole in three put territory!!\u00a0 We\u2019re in with a chance..\u00a0 Chang strikes his putt and it\u2019s racing to the hole at pace…. but hits dead centre and drops to claim the victory over Jack and steal the contest from under our feet.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re going to have to play our best next week as we take on top team Kooyonga at Grange.<\/p>\n
