{"id":5793,"date":"2014-03-28T13:18:06","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T02:48:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/?p=5793"},"modified":"2023-06-20T15:44:38","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T06:14:38","slug":"bob-tuohy-receives-life-membership-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/2014\/03\/bob-tuohy-receives-life-membership-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Bob Tuohy receives Life membership honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/229651-bob-tuohy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Bob Tuohy - Life Member of Glenelg Golf Club\" alt=\"Bob Tuohy - Life Member of Glenelg Golf Club\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/229651-bob-tuohy.jpg\" width=\"530\" \/><\/a>It is with great pleasure that we announce the election of Bob Tuohy to Life membership of Glenelg Golf Club.\u00a0 Bob was elected unanimously by members to the position at the 86th Annual General Meeting of the Club on Wednesday, 26th March 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Bob had an outstanding playing record in his formative years and has contributed greatly over many years to the Club with his considered advice and proven valuable initiatives.\u00a0 Our magnificent golf course, which everyone is so enjoying now, is a product of Bob&#8217;s foresight and knowledge when he partnered with golf course architect, Neil Crafter, to commence the redevelopment of the course in 1998.<\/p>\n<p>The Club was extremely proud of Bob&#8217;s induction into the SA Golf Industry Hall of Fame in 2011; an honour that was richly deserved given his involvement within the golfing industry and promotion of the noble game of golf.<\/p>\n<p class=\"highlight\">[intlink id=&#8221;3503&#8243; type=&#8221;page&#8221;]Go to SA Golf Industry Hall of Fame page[\/intlink]<\/p>\n<h2>About Bob Tuohy<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Bob Tuohy <\/strong>has been an active contributor to golf at this Club, locally, nationally and internationally for more than 50 years. He has had an amazingly successful career as a tournament promoter, responsible for some of the biggest tournaments in Australia &amp; New Zealand, including the ANZ Ladies Masters, NZ Open, NZ PGA, The Player\u2019s Championship and Tour Championship, and the Jacob\u2019s Creek Open to name just a few. And it all started with the 1976 West Lakes Classic at which a young golfer by the name of Greg Norman earned the first of many tournament wins at Grange Golf Club.<\/p>\n<p>Bob was a reasonable player too:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>C Grade Champion in 1954 at age 13;<\/li>\n<li>1955, 56 &amp; 57 Club Foursomes Champion;<\/li>\n<li>1957 State Amateur Champion<\/li>\n<li>1957 State Junior Amateur Champion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then in 1958, he dominated the local golf scene as an 18 year old, winning the State Amateur, State Junior Amateur, State Foursomes, State Mixed Foursomes, the Club Championship, and the Jimmy McLachlan Trophy, among other events. Bob turned professional shortly afterwards, and had a distinguished career on the Pro circuit, winning 13 different tournaments in 8 different countries, and was a fairly consistent bridesmaid on 29 separate occasions.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, Bob was awarded Honorary Membership of the PGA Tour of Australasia for his services to professional golf in Australia, and in that year Tuohy Associates launched Australia\u2019s highly successful Australian Ladies Masters on the Gold Coast and soon after was instrumental in reintroducing the Women\u2019s Australian Open Championship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is with great pleasure that we announce the election of Bob Tuohy to Life membership of Glenelg Golf Club.
