The 2013 Jimmy McLachlan Memorial Trophy has been decided by a single stroke on Sunday, with Anthony Olsen taking out the 36 hole event over Matt Overall. Michael Ratajewski finished in third place a further stroke back while Campbell Rawson finished in fourth place, after his impressive top 10 result in the recent Golf SA Classic national amateur event.<\/p>\n

The event proved to be a very positive lead up for the 2013 Golf SA Pennant Season, with some great scores across the board off the challenging black tees.<\/p>\n

Michael Ratajewski will be vying for pennant selection after an impressive 71 saw him tied for the lead after round one, with state representative Lachlan Booth. Anthony Olsen and Martin Ardill were a further two strokes back with scores of two over par, 73. Junior members Will Starkey and Braeden Kelly showed promise, with scores of 75 and 79 respectively.<\/p>\n

With wind picking up before the afternoon round, all players inside the top ten were in with a realistic chance of challenging for the win.<\/p>\n

Campbell Rawson was determined to follow up his disappointing first round 78 with a good score, and fought his way into contention with a one under par, 70, proving to be the low round of the day. First round leader Lachlan Booth was not able to follow up his great first round 71, shooting an unexpected 79 in the afternoon. Michael Ratajewski’s second round 76 certainly didn’t play him out of the event, and his 147 total looked like it may be the benchmark. Playing in the same group as Ratajewski, it would end up being Matt Overall who would take the clubhouse lead, making a tricky 15 footer on the last for an even par 71, for a two round total of four over par, 146.<\/p>\n

At this point Olsen stood on the 15th tee, two under par for his round and comfortably in control. Glenelg’s tough finishing stretch started to bear its teeth however, and soft bogeys on 15, 16 and 17 all of a sudden brought a playoff into the equation. After taking rescue off the tee and playing the 18th as a genuine two-shot hole, Olsen would end up taking two putts from 20 feet for his par to finish the job. A second round 72, following up his 73, saw a two round total of three over par, 145, enough to overcome Overall by the one stroke.<\/p>\n
