\"\"We are pleased to announce that in the current January 2012 edition of Golf Australia magazine, Glenelg Golf Club has been ranked 29th in Australia.<\/p>\n

Golf Australia Magazine previously ranked their top 50 course each year, but have expanded their rankings to a biennial top 100, in the same manner as Australian Golf Digest Magazine.<\/p>\n

Glenelg ranked one spot higher than Grange West, and ahead of The Australian, Portsea, The Cut, Joondalup, The National (Ocean Course), Brookwater, Yarra Yarra, Huntingdale, Moonah Links (Open Course) and Royal Canberra.<\/p>\n

Golf Australia Magazine commented \u201cAdelaide\u2019s Glenelg layout finished just outside the top 50 in 2010 but it jumped 23 places, more than any other course, to find a spot at No. 29<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some of the other judges comments included:<\/p>\n

\u201cGlenelg is a fabulously maintained golf course with some fine par-3 holes and well-bunkered driving zones<\/em>\u201d \u2013 Cameron Howell<\/p>\n

\u201cThe half-revetted bunkering throughout the course is a real feature, as is Glenelg\u2019s approach to environmental and vegetation management<\/em>\u201d \u2013 James Bennett<\/p>\n

\u201cGlenelg is no longer the poor cousin on the Adelaide Sandbelt.\u00a0 Neil Crafter\u2019s re-design, highlighted by revetted bunkering, has given the course a great unique character<\/em>\u201d \u2013 David Elvins<\/p>\n

Other Adelaide courses to fair in the rankings were Royal Adelaide (10th, out from 7th last year), Kooyonga (23rd, out from 12th last year), Grange West (30th, up from 37th last year) and Links Lady Bay (66th).\u00a0 Grange East was not rated due to course works currently under way.<\/p>\n

It will now be interesting to see where Glenelg will be ranked when Australian Golf Digest release their rankings in the March 2012 edition, due out in mid-February.\u00a0 In the previous rankings in March 2010, Glenelg was rated 45th, up one from the 2008 rankings.<\/p>\n
