{"id":20755,"date":"2019-01-11T12:57:45","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T02:27:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/?p=20755"},"modified":"2023-06-20T15:43:14","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T06:13:14","slug":"course-news-closures-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/2019\/01\/course-news-closures-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Course News &#038; Closures"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Course News &amp; Closures<\/h1>\n<p><em>Friday 11th January, 2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As it is the first Course news penned for 2019, I hope everybody had a great Christmas, New Year period and I wish everyone the best for the year ahead!<\/p>\n<p>The Course Maintenance team continued to maintain the course to a high standard over the holiday period in preparation for the Blitz Golf event staged last week.\u00a0 The course presented well for the day and much of the credit must go to my team for putting in some long hours and working to a high standard to the end, to present the Glenelg Golf Course in the best possible light for the many visiting Professionals who teed it up for Sunday\u2019s Tournament.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20758 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Pic-2-1024x517.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"253\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now with the Blitz over and done with for another year, our attention turns to conditioning the course for the Queen Sirikit Cup, which is only 9 weeks away.\u00a0 As a part of the preparations, works are continuing with the redevelopment of the Practice Fairway.\u00a0 The completion of the new Rain Bird Irrigation system before Christmas sees us beginning the next stage of the upgrade to the Tee end of the fairway.\u00a0 This week saw the old netting poles removed and the ground works completed for the pouring of the concrete for the extension of the hit off matting bay by 20 meters to the east.\u00a0 Concrete works will begin Monday 14<sup>th<\/sup> January.\u00a0 To facilitate these works in safety, it has been decided that the best course of action is to close the Bonython car park whilst the work is been undertaken.\u00a0 The car park closure days next week will be;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday 14<sup>th<\/sup> <br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Tuesday 15<sup>th<\/sup> <br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Thursday 17<sup>th<\/sup> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20757 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Pic-1-e1547172486623-767x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"382\" \/>The Practice fairway will be open all days next week apart from <strong>Tuesday.<\/strong>\u00a0 Tuesday the bulk of the works will be undertaken and whilst all the work is occurring pouring concrete, we are going to take the opportunity to shut the Fairway to finish tidying up Irrigation trenches and to remove any remaining debris to allow cutting of the fairway to recommence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Next week will also see screening and stockpiling of sand adjacent to the Bonython car park.\u00a0 This operation will see sand that has been stockpiled on the left-hand side of the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> as well as left-hand side of the 5<sup>th<\/sup> carted to the car park and put through a mobile screening plant.\u00a0 This sand once screened, will be utilised to construct a new levelled tee area directly in front of the artificial turf hitting bay as well as a new practice putting green that will be built after the Queen Sirikit Cup in late March.<\/p>\n<p>We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these disruptions but ultimately, we are working to provide the best possible facilities for all Members and potential Members, and with that comes some short-term pain, for long term gains.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Golfing!
