{"id":19788,"date":"2018-08-29T13:35:30","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T04:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/?p=19788"},"modified":"2023-06-20T15:43:21","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T06:13:21","slug":"2019-queen-sirikit-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/2018\/08\/2019-queen-sirikit-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 Queen Sirikit Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CkMCMtYiy10\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>Glenelg Golf Club is proud to announce it will be the host club for the 41st edition of the prestigious Queen Sirikit Cup from Monday 4th to Friday 8th of March 2019.\u00a0 The Cup will feature the 3 best amateur women golfers from 14 countries within the Asia Pacific region.\u00a0 Many of the world&#8217;s best LPGA players have contested this important pathway event to enhance their careers including Karrie Webb, Minjee Lee, Shan Shan Feng, Ai Miyazato, Ji Yae Shin, Lydia Ko and Yani Tseng.<\/p>\n<p>Glenelg Golf Club is committed to ensuring the success of the event in support of Golf Australia, The Royal and Ancient and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation.\u00a0 We aim to deliver a world class experience at The Bay for all competitors and visitors.<\/p>\n<h3>History of the Queen Sirikit Cup<\/h3>\n<p>The Queen Sirikit Cup is also known as the Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship.\u00a0 It is very closely intertwined with the Thailand Ladies Golf Association which was registered in February 1979.\u00a0 Given there was no national team championship, and no international ladies events in the region at the time the Association believed such an event would give ladies the opportunity to play at a higher lever and accomplish more for themselves and their countries.<\/p>\n<p>A proposal was sent to the national golf associations of 13 countries including Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Burma, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand to send a team of 3 players to launch the national team championship in Bangkok.\u00a0 Of the 14 invited, nine countries attended the inaugural event.<\/p>\n<p>The Thailand Ladies Golf Association requested the challenge trophy from Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, naming the trophy in her honour.<\/p>\n<p>The Queen Sirikit Cup was born.\u00a0 An exact replica of the handcrafted silver trophy is presented to the champion team each year.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19789\" style=\"width: 542px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/QSC-e1535448809429.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19789\" class=\"wp-image-19789\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/QSC-e1535448809429.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"355\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-19789\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><sup>2018 Queen Sirikit Cup Champions Korea<\/sup><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Glenelg Golf Club is proud to announce it will play host to the 41st edition of the prestigious Queen Sirikit Cup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":19789,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[15,31],"tags":[527],"class_list":["post-19788","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-guests-news","category-womens-news","tag-queen-sirikit-cup"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 -
