{"id":19637,"date":"2018-08-02T11:14:55","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T01:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/?p=19637"},"modified":"2023-06-20T15:43:23","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T06:13:23","slug":"member-notice-changes-to-golflink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/2018\/08\/member-notice-changes-to-golflink\/","title":{"rendered":"MEMBER NOTICE: Changes to Golflink"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Golflink.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glenelggolf.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Golflink.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"357\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, 4th September Golf Australia (GA) will be changing the way members view their handicap history online.\u00a0 Please see the letter from GA CEO Stephen Pitt below.<\/p>\n<p>All members wishing to view their handicap will need to register with GA, once logged in access to handicap history will remain as it is currently.\u00a0 Registered users can opt to remain continually logged in.<\/p>\n<p>We will advise of the registration process for members without an email address as the information becomes available.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Dear All,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I am writing to let you know that from Tuesday 4 September all golfers and officials will need to log-in to view handicaps and handicap histories on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golf.org.au\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.golf.org.au<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The new log-in process will involve users registering their email address with Golf Australia (GA). Once logged-in, all users of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golf.org.au\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.golf.org.au<\/a> will have full access to the same range of world-standard handicapping functionality they currently experience. This includes a person being able to view the handicap history of any golfer they know the GOLF Link number of. Having wide access to handicap records remains a key feature of the handicapping service GA provides to all officials and golfers, and it is an important safeguard against handicap manipulation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Asking users to log-in to an internet service has become a standard operating practice. By moving in this direction GA will be able to develop and maintain a rich source of data to generate insights that will be critical to growing the industry\u2019s capacity to support golf clubs and their businesses. It will also be used to communicate important information and updates, and to develop innovative ways to improve the golf experience of individual players. (This source of data will be strictly separate to any personal member data provided directly by clubs to GA to enable the operation of GOLF Link. Member data provided directly by clubs is closely protected by data privacy legislation and may not be used by GA for the above purposes.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Some other important elements of this new process are:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 There will be a workaround available to people who do not have an email address.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 There will be no restrictions on who can register to use the handicapping service on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golf.org.au\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.golf.org.au<\/a>.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 Any individual who registers will have the choice to opt out of receiving any commercial marketing.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 The new log-in process will only apply when using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golf.org.au\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.golf.org.au<\/a> to access handicap or score history information. Nothing will change for the experience of a member when they remain within their club software system.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 GA\u2019s policy on data protection can be viewed at \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golf.org.au\/privacypolicy\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.golf.org.au\/privacypolicy<\/a>.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 If a user wishes, they will be able to remain continually logged-in to avoid having to enter their password every time they start a new viewing session.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We will post reminders and further information closer to 4 September.
