Kooyonga Golf Club has won the 2012 Rhonda Watson Brooch with a combined team gross score of 256, 16 shots ahead of nearest competitors Glenelg.<\/p>\n

The Kooyonga team, made up of Lyn McGough, Ann Ewer and Jodie Deacon played consistent golf in cool, calm conditions around the difficult women’s championship layout to take out the Brooch.\u00a0 Lyn McGough and Jodie Deacon fired rounds of 83, with Ann Ewer completing the winning score with 90.\u00a0 Their win this year makes it a three-peat, defending their titles won in 2011 and 2010.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The Net event was taken out by the Mt Osmond team of Jenny Butcher, Mieun Jin and Penny Matthews, with a combined net score of 243, one shot ahead of Glenelg’s team of Cathy Johnson, Kay Nyland and Elysia Yap.<\/p>\n

Glenelg’s Elysia Yap fired the best round of the day – a 10-over 82, one shot ahead of Kooyonga’s Lyn McGough and Jodie Deacon.<\/p>\n

About Rhonda Watson OAM<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>Rhonda joined Glenelg Golf Club in 1948 as a Junior member and in 1951 commenced her first year of 26 years playing for the Club in Pennant competitions.\u00a0 She remains a member today and the family tradition continues. Rhonda\u2019s daughter Sue Tuohy, and grandson Ben Tuohy, are both members of Glenelg\u2019s successful Pennant teams and active members of the Club.<\/p>\n

Rhonda won 12 State Championships and 13 Club Championships.<\/p>\n

In 1959, Rhonda was the first lady to obtain a scratch handicap in South Australia.<\/p>\n

Rhonda represented South Australia for many years as part of the State team and in 1962 and 1966 she was selected to represent Australia in the Tasman Cup Team.\u00a0 In 1968, she won a Gold Laurel Wreath Brooch for playing par golf at Glenelg and in 1969, won the Champion of Champions trophy.\u00a0 In 1970, Rhonda was non-playing captain of the Australia Tasman Cup team.<\/p>\n

Rhonda has been involved in the administration of women\u2019s golf at a club, state and national level on various committees.<\/p>\n
