Last week, the South Australian 12 & Under School Golf Championship was played at the West Beach Parks Executive 50 Course. There were two days’ worth of golf – Thursday consisted of 15 holes for the Metropolitan and Country Championships. From these two separate competitions, a cut was made and a smaller field played an additional 15 holes on Friday for the State Championship. The Boys and Girls winners of this event won the State Championship, while the Top 8 Boys and Top 4 Girls made the 12 & Under State Team.
Glenelg Junior Members Gareth Thien, Jayneil Rudrappagari, Mitchell Munn, Levi Ashton and Adele Wang all qualified for the State Championship after their rounds in horrific conditions on Thursday. They all showed incredible grit and persistence through very difficult conditions. I’m very proud of them all for working so hard through the heavy rain and wind.
On Friday Jayneil took advantage of the slightly improved conditions, carding a round of 58 and placing third in the state, and making the SA State Team. Congratulations Jay! Glenelg Juniors Jack Leonard and Kade Bryant also walked around to help score for Golf Australia, well done boys.
I wish Jayneil and the rest of the SA State Team luck for when they play at the National 12 & Under Golf Championships in WA in November.
