Dear Members,

Course Renovations

Entering the last month of Winter, sees our Turf maintenance start to be geared towards preparing surfaces for Greens Renovations as well as breaking Couch surfaces out of Winter dormancy.

Turf growth on Greens has come to a standstill with small amounts of grass clippings taken off after each cutting.  Quality and playability of the Putting surfaces has been extremely good, especially given the amount of traffic through Covid-19, with Green speeds and target firmness being met.

Green Renovations will commence at approximately 12.30pm on Sunday, 6th September and continue through Monday and Tuesday, with the course being closed for play. The renovation process will involve Greens being hollow tine cored, top-dressed with sand and then receive a deep, solid tine aeration. This week in preparation for the renovations, the Greens have been lightly groomed and received an application of fertilizer to ensure the quickest possible recovery time.  Whilst Greens are being renovated, the fairways will receive a light dethatching and a lowering of the height of cut to prepare for the upcoming growing season.

The full fairway and tee renovation process will take place in early December.

Course Ratings

Golf Australia have recently rated our shorter Red Course for men and the longer White Course for women for use in official golf link competitions. Details can be found in the chart below.

GA, Red, Men

GA, Red, Men, 1-9

GA, Red, Men, 10-18

GA, White, Women

GA, White, Women, 1-9

GA, White, Women, 10-18

The women’s rated White Course has a total distance of 5734m, a total of 224 meters longer than the Red Course. The par is 73 with a scratch rating of 78 and a slope rating of 144.

The club will periodically use these courses to add variety and gather information to provide accurate indexing of holes.

Red Tee Competition

In the past, during renovation week, big hole golf has been played with no competition golf during the week. This year, given that the new course ratings have been received, as an alternative to big hole golf it has been agreed to play a Red Tee competition on both Wednesday, 9th September and Saturday, 12th September.

The newly rated men’s Red Course has a total distance of 5510m, a total of 224m shorter than the White Course or an average of 12.4m per hole.  The par of 71 is retained, however the scratch rating is reduced to 71 with a slope rating of 130.

We hope you all enjoy the challenge off the Red tees.

Member Guests

Throughout the renovation process, Members can introduce a guest to play golf at The Bay for the reduced green fee price of $50. This offer is only available from 9th to 25th September 2020 and is limited to one guest per Member.
