Wow what a day winning the Sanderson Cup on the 19th hole at Kooyonga on Sunday.

At last we were able to beat the Grange girls and bring the cup back to GGC again.

It was a wonderful and very exciting end to a special season for all the team.

I was very proud of all the girls and it was extremely exciting winning in those circumstances!

What a time to get a long putt- thanks Elysia for holing a 25 foot putt on the 19th hole!! (Please see video below Jan took as we felt quietly confident it was time for one to go in!)

The matches all started in light drizzle & it was very close all day. It could have gone either way at the turn, with only one player being 1 up, 2 square, and 2 narrowly down.

To their credit all the girls played well and fought back strongly on the back nine.

Jade was our first winner of the day, beating Alicia Smith 3 & 2. Well done Jade and Ruth Martin for caddying. You have a very bright future ahead!

Shakira also won 3 & 2 and was awarded the pennant player of the year for the women, as well as being named in the Sanderson Team of the year! Sarah King was on her bag for the day and we would like to thank her so much for all the trainings and drills she so professionally set up every Thursday night with Sam Hughes. We are lucky to have such dedicated coaches!

Emma Sutton fought strongly all day with some long hitting but was beaten 3 & 2. Hope you will come back from College golf in the USA next year as we loved having you in our team!

Sarah played well all day with some very accurate iron play, but was beaten 2 & 1 by a quality opponent. A good season after having 2 knee operations and only just making a come back at the beginning of the season.

Elysia was the star of the day fighting back strongly and hanging in there, but was 1 down with one to play. She managed to win the 18th and take it down the 19th and hole the most spectacular long putt for a very special end to our day.

We cannot forget Charley Jacobs, missing both finals due to playing commitments in USA. Thanks Charley for playing number one this season and we hope you will also return from College golf next year to be an integral part of this young team.

A big thank you to Chris Whitford, Jayne Staridas, Tony Martin, Ruth Martin, Meredith Sutton, Andre Kuys, and Sarah King for caddying throughout the season.

To all the spectators out watching yesterday, including our winning Simpson boys, it was a great atmosphere around 18 and 19 so I thank you all for braving the very cold and windy conditions. It was definitely worth it!

We all celebrated well last night and I would like to congratulate the other winning Glenelg teams, Simpson Cup, Bonnar Cup and A3 women.

It’s been 54 years since team Glenelg won both Sanderson & Simpson Cups- so a very special year for all team Glenelg!

It’s been a pleasure managing this young team so thanks GGC for the opportunity! Winning is great!!
