Course News

Firstly, congratulations to our Mechanic, Liam Doyle who became a father last week!  Liam and his wife Anna-Lisa were pleased to announce the birth of the Doyle Twins on the 8th of August 2018.  Amy Violet and Jake Lawrence came into the world at 33 weeks, weighing in at 1.8kg each.  On behalf of all the staff, congratulations to Liam and Anna-Lisa on the twins’ safe arrival and we wish you all the happiness that parenting will bring!

Last week, staff completed the renovation of the first fairway bunker on the 10th hole with entire revetted sod wall replaced by sod harvested from our nursery and sod taken from the recent Practice Fairway works.

Whilst undertaking this task, sand was added to face below the revetting of the middle bunker to lessen the angle.  This should assist balls coming to rest toward the middle of the base, away from the revetted wall.

With a few fine days of late, our winter weed control program marches on with most of the course now treated.  Our spraying program is targeting broadleaf weeds such as Sour Sob, Cape Weed and Clovers to name a few.  Hopefully with further good weather this task will be finished in the next fortnight.

Our Vegetation Officer, Monina Gilbey continues her enhancement work around the entrance and clubhouse with further removal of dead plants, weeds and the thinning out of overgrown areas.  These areas are now being planted with a variety of local species to improve the visual aspects of these areas with extra colour and texture.

As I mentioned in our last Course News update, Greens Renovations are fast approaching.  The tee will be closed from 12:00pm on Sunday, 2nd September through to Tuesday night with the course opened from Wednesday, 5th September.

The Practice Fairway will be open over this period.

Works will involve hollow tine coring of greens followed by sand topdressing and scarification of tees.  Fairway works will involve minor grooming and scalping in the back half of September with heavier dethatching taking place in early December.

For all updates on renovation works, hole and course closures, keep an eye on the Club’s website where we will have all relevant information.

Happy Golfing!
