Simpson Cup remain undefeated

The Glenelg team had a solid 4.5 – 2.5 victory over Kooyonga at Glenelg.  Played in tough wintery conditions our first 4 players took control early in their matches to set up the team win.

No. 7 – Harry Burner.  Played solid golf early to reach the turn 2 up, he extended that to 3 up at 15 and completed his match with a 2/1 win.

No. 6 – Jack Tanner.  In a lesson for all players, Jack showed the benefit of a classy short game.  Getting it up and down on 11 occasions to control his match.  Jacks 5/3 victory continued his fine form this season.

No. 5 – Ben Layton.  Ben started his match brilliantly to lead by 4 after 6 holes, however a lost ball in a pine tree reduced that to 3 up after 7.  The start was enough for Ben to close out his match 3/1.

No. 4 – Jack Buchanan.  Jack never ceases to impress, playing fantastic golf against a formidable opponent, he was sub par on a tough day to win 6/4.

No. 3 – Frank  Vucic.  For his high standards, Frank struggled early to be 5 down at the turn. With our teams never say die attitude he fought back on the back nine and went down 3/1 to one of his State teammates.

No. 2 – Josh Hayes.  Josh was in trouble early in his match to be 3 down at the turn, then with a barnstorming finish, 4 birdies over the last 7 holes, gave him a very meritorious half against a very good opponent in Heath Riches.

No. 1 – Jackson Kalz.  Sunday was far from Jackson’s best day, and we all know that rarely occurs.  Down 3 holes early and with his opponent fresh from his Club Championship victory, and still in fine form, Jackson went down 5/4.

Very well done boys, we have set our season up, so let’s stay focused and continue the good work.  Special thanks to our loyal followers who braved the elements.
