Bonnar bounce back for 7 – 0 victory

Report by Wayne Humphries
Team Manager

The Bonnar boys responded to the challenge for a strong win by playing solid golf early and establishing big leads over the first 9 holes.  After 9 holes we were leading 7 – 0 over Blackwood with Glenelg well in control.

At No. 7 Jacob Rillotta was making his Men’s Pennant debut, after losing the first hole Jacob took control to be 2 up after 8 holes and then holed some nice putts on 12, 13 and 14 to win his game 5/4.

Michael Ratajewski at No.6 continued his strong form this season, 4 up after 5 holes, he maintained the pressure to run out a 7/6 winner.

At No. 5 Andy Humphries was too strong, holed some nice putts and recorded a very solid 6/5 win.

Simon Gallie at No.4 had the most competitive game of the day.  Simon had a great start and was 3 up after 4 holes, but his opponent was playing some very solid golf, but Simon was still 3 up after 13, having to make some strong birdies to maintain his advantage.  However the game became a real tussle over the last 5 holes, Simon lost 14 to par and 15 to birdie to be only 1 up.  Then both players made some miraculous pars on the last 3 holes for Simon to maintain his 1 up advantage.

Henry Duregon at No. 3 had another big win, only 1 up after 5 holes, Henry then won the next 6 holes and recorded a strong 7/5 victory.

At No. 2 we welcomed back Will Starkey to Pennant Golf.  Will has been performing solidly in the USA on a college scholarship and took a few holes to ease back to pennant golf.  His opponent was very steady early and took a 2 up lead after 3 holes. However, Will steadied and got his putter working to be back to square after 7 holes and then pulled clear to win his game 5/3.

Meanwhile Michael Munn at No. 1 started strongly to win his first 3 holes.  His opponent then played very steady golf and they halved many holes.  Michael mainly maintained his 3 up lead but got out to 4 up after 10 and maintained that advantage to win 4/3.

A much needed 7 – 0 win for the team as we prepare to play Flagstaff Hill on their home course next Sunday, this will be a tough contest and an important match to win to keep our finals dream alive.
