Sanderson Cup defeated in tough match

Sanderson Cup teamReport by Jill Hodge
Team Manager

Unfortunately we could not get over the line in the final to a very competitive Grange team and lost 3.5 to 1.5. I am very proud of the girls making the final after missing out last year, and with Charley Jacobs our No. 2 out with a wrist injury, it was always going to be a battle. We all gave it our best and will be looking forward to seeking our revenge next season. We have some very talented Juniors on the rise in the A2 & junior teams so hopefully this extra competition to gain a place in the top side will give rise to a very healthy scene in Women’s Pennant at Glenelg next season. Jill Hodge has announced her retirement from playing as she feels there are plenty of others to take her spot. Work hard girls and you will reap the rewards. The junior program at our Club is a credit to everyone involved, especially our coaching staff.

Thank you to all my wonderful girls, you have been a credit to our Club in your performances and sportsmanship throughout the whole season.

Elysia Yap No. 1

Elysia was 1 up playing the 14th hole against Ella Adams when her match was abandoned due to a result in the overall match. She played very well all day with many birdies and was reportably about to go 2 up at this stage too. She remained undefeated this season and was chosen as the No.1 in the inaugural Golf SA Pennant Team of the Year! A great season so well done Elysia!!!

Josie Gale No. 2

Josie was advanced to the No. 2 spot with Charley’s absence and found the going tough all day, losing to Jin-Young Yun 6/4. It was not her best season but she did play some tough opponents at No. 3.

Jill Hodge No. 3

Jill did not play her best and lost her match 6/5 to Caitlin Roberts, who played very well under the pressure of a final. This was Jill’s only loss for her 3 matches played this season and she has announced her retirement from A1 pennant (for the third time).

Sarah Crocker No. 4

Sarah played very well the whole match and beat Louise Glennon 3/2. She holed some great putts on the back nine and was never challenged by her opponent. She had a good season winning 4.5 matches out of 6. Well done Sarah!

Matilda Wheare No. 5

Tilly lost her match to the undefeated Jean Foo 3/1. She battled hard all day and was square with 4 holes to play, but Jean played some exceptional shots and putts to close out a great match. Tilly had a good season winning 4 out of 6 matches and I know her golf is slowly returning to her best form since her elbow surgery. Keep up the practise Tilly as I know you will be playing higher up in the team next year.

A big thank you to all our caddies – Bob Tuohy, James McDonald, Andrew Hodge, Chris Crocker, Gavin Wheare & Tony Martin. Their tireless efforts have been really appreciated by all the players!!

I look forward to building on this season with a very competitive group of fine young women and holding the Sanderson Cup once again.
